“Why can’t I use Human Shampoo on my Dog?”
This is a question we get asked a lot and even more specially, ‘why can’t I use Baby Shampoo on my Dog?’ The thinking being, if it’s good enough for a baby then it must be good enough for my dog!
- • A dog’s skin is far more sensitive than a human’s skin (including babies!) and it is also far more alkaline. Most human shampoos have a pH value of around 5.2 to 6.2, whereas a dog’s skin is generally around 7 – 7.5. Using a shampoo with a more acid pH can cause itching, soreness and skin conditions. WildWash Pet Shampoos are made with the correct pH to suit a dog or cat’s skin.
- • Most Human Shampoos are heavily perfumed with synthetic fragrances which not only contain petrochemicals which can be harmful but strong fragrances can also cause distress to a dog’s nose! Dog’s often get rid of these offending smells but rolling in something unmentionable as soon as they have a chance!
- • In most Human Shampoos you will find the second ingredient (after water) is Sodium Lauryl Sulphate which is used to created foam and bubbles. This chemical is bad for a dog’s skin, does not aid cleaning and is difficult to wash out. Leaving residue in a dog’s coat can cause itching and soreness and the coat will take longer to dry.
- • Wrong pH value
- • Strong synthetic perfumes
- • Too much foam and difficult to wash out
In short the answer is NO, using human shampoo on dogs is not recommended as it can have several negative effects on their sensitive skin.
Therefore, it’s important to choose the right shampoo for your furry friend to keep their skin healthy and clean.
Why choose WildWash?
There are so many benefits for pet owners using WildWash instead of a regular pet shampoo or human shampoo. So we thought we’d share some below:
1. Our Shampoos Decrease Drying Time, Saving Time and Money
This is because we do not use any sulfates in our products. We do not use SLS or SLES. You will see these in ingredient lists as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES).
We do not use these ingredients as they are bad for the environment and Sulfates strip away too much moisture, leaving the hair dry and unhealthy. They may also make the scalp dry and prone to irritation. They are used commonly in skincare because they are a cheap foaming agent which gives the illusion of washing from the foam they create. However, what actually happens is the foam, doesn’t aid washing and leaves lots of residue in the coat which takes ages to try and rinse out. It’s impossible to rinse out all the residue fully and then the coat takes ages to dry.
2. 32-1 Dilution Rate Making WildWash Cost Effective
All our professional shampoos dilute at 32-1, which means a bottle of shampoo lasts a long time. A 5ltr bottle will give 166 washes and a 300ml bottle will give 10 washes. Our WildWash mixing bottle make it very easy to stick to the dilution rates.
We also issued a complete price freeze when costs started to spiral in the UK, which we are still honoring to this day. We are weathering the storm for you to give you peace of mind which means you can continue to use the very best shampoo without sustaining any extra costs.
3. Great Ingredients, Great Results, Great Hands!
At WildWash we created our own unique formulas, using the very best ingredients we could find. Unlike most dog shampoos, WildWash is not a white label product. Most regular dog shampoos are mass produced in one factory and then sold to different companies and marketed.
WildWash is different. We created each and every product over a 2 year period, carefully choosing the ingredients that we believed would best benefit our pets skin and coat and help us look after our environement. We do not use Sulfates, Parabens, Phthalates, Phosphates, Petrochemiocals, PEGs and Palm Oils, and all our products are made at a Carbon Free apothecary in Somerset.
The results have been amazing and we receive daily testimonials from our clients all over the world!
4. Long Lasting Scents
We use 100% pure essential oils in our products. These not only address skin and coat problems and help us solve them, but they also mean our products smell beautiful. Most synthetic fragrances contain petrochemicals which can cause skin sensitivity issues, so this is why we chose to use pure essential oils instead.
The fragrance left in the pets coat after using WildWash is wonderful. It is liked by the pet so they don’t immediately try and roll in something to get rid of it and it lasts much longer than a synthetic fragrance which means your pets will smell better for much much longer!
5. Honest and Trustworthy
At WildWash we have always tried to be as transparent as possible. We were one of the first pet shampoo brands to list every ingredient on the label, so that our users had all the information needed to make an informed choice about the products they chose to use.
6. Working Hard to Look After The Environment
All our decisions at WildWash consider the impact to the environment we live in. We strive hard to create the best products whilst creating as less damage to the environment as we can.
We chose recycled plastic packaging for our WildWash Pet Range, we set up recycle centres for our WildWash Pro Range, our ingredients are from sustainable sources, we make our products in a carbon free apothecary and we are constantly trying to perform better for the environment. We carry the Cruelty Free International Logo and have Ethical Accreditation and we are in the process of becoming a B Corp business.
