Summertime, and the livin’ is…hot. And sweaty. And all we really want is something icy to cool us down, like some frozen watermelon winner treats for dogs.
These goodies are not only super easy to make, but they’re also healthy—for you and your dog. You know, in case you’re tempted to sample one.
Thankfully, watermelon is one of those tasty fruits that dogs can benefit from and enjoy. Watermelon is 92% water, so these treats are a delicious way to ensure your pup stays hydrated in between fetch sessions! These are super low in calories and are rich in vitamins C, B6, and A, they are a perfect warm-weather alternative to store-bought treats.
INGREDIENTS
» 2 cups of seedless watermelon
» 1 cup coconut water or milk
» 1 tablespoon of honey (optional)
» Treats: 30
» Cook Time: 30 minutes
HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
The watermelon must be seedless for this recipe to work as dogs may have a hard time ingesting seeds.
1. Start by scooping 2 cups out and adding it to the blender. Puree until smooth.
2. Add the 1 cup coconut milk or water and the 1 tablespoon of honey and blend until mixed together.
3. Pour the mixture into ice cube trays of your choosing and cover with plastic wrap or a sustainable option like beeswax wrap.
4. Last, leave them to freeze overnight.
5. Take them out in the morning and enjoy!
♥ HIDE AND SEEK BONUS ♥
For an extra-special indulgence, create hide and seek treats. First, only fill the trays halfway before freezing the liquid. Once frozen, place a small treat like a blueberry or piece of freeze-dried liver in the middle of the cube then fill the rest of the tray with the remaining liquid. Once the entire cube is frozen, there will be a tasty surprise waiting inside when your dog licks or chomps the ice.
These frosty watermelon treats are not only healthy and safe for any pup, but they also add a little bit of fruity fun to any summer activity!
